The attic has bats

As I mentioned in my last post, I had begun to suspect I had bats in my attic. After having a professional come inspect, that suspicion is no more. It is fact. There are bats in my attic.

Now, this wouldn’t be horrible news, if it weren’t for the infestation of bat bugs that comes with the bats, and is in fact, the only way I discovered the problem. My attic is very high and large, and sounds just do not travel into the rest of the house. My bedroom is directly under the bats apparently, and I have heard nothing of late at all to make me suspect there are visitors in my attic.

It was the sudden appearance of small bugs dropping randomly from my ceiling vent in my bedroom that started to freak me out. It started a few weeks back, and since I live in a rural area in the mountains, I’m pretty used to seeing the random bug or spider (or scorpion) show up in my house. They sneak in through the basement usually, get in the walls, and end up in the living space eventually.

But I am not used to seeing bugs in my bedroom or coming out of the ceiling vents.

There was one time where a large spider dropped in, and let me tell you, that was not an event I ever want to repeat. It led to me moving my bed. A good thing, it turned out, because its position now is one I love and probably never would have thought of without a need to get my bed out from under the ceiling vent so I would never have a spider drop down on my bed again while I was in it. :D

Unfortunately, this is not the right time to move the bats (exclude them, as it’s apparently called), so I have visitors for another few months before I will basically need my entire attic restored because of the contamination of the insulation (guano) and the infestation of the associated bat bugs.

My next challenge is going to be figuring out how to pay for it all.

Not gonna lie here. I have had a very, very hard time the last few years, including lowered output, lowered income, deaths in my family, and this is pushing me in the wrong direction on several fronts.

I don’t want that.

So today, I’m going to regroup. Try to get some writing done. Publish a thing or two. Then see how I feel afterward. I have always found that action, when I can get myself to take it, is a good way to improve my outlook. I think I can at least do that today.
